USIU Student Delegation Visits AAI’s Office in New York

The USIU student delegation members introduce themselves to the AAI staff in New York.

A 16-member student delegation from AAI-institutional partner U.S. International University (USIU), based in Nairobi, Kenya, visited the AAI office on February 17 in New York City.

The student delegation and faculty member were in the United States to participate in Harvard University’s National Model United Nations conference in mid-February.

USIU student delegation 1A visit by the USIU student delegation to the AAI office has become an annual tradition, which began in 2015, as the delegation wrapped up its final days in the U.S.

The delegation’s visit with AAI staff included a discussion on the long partnership between AAI and USIU and the importance of strengthening relationships across the Diaspora, including with African-Americans. The students also shared their perspectives on the challenges and hopes for Kenya’s future.

“The lively discussion was an inspiring one and brought joy and laughter to some really challenging topics. There were clearly future debaters, policymakers, and change makers in the midst,” said Melissa Howell, Program Manager for AAI’s Transformational Leadership Program (TLP).

USIU, an institutional partner of AAI for nearly 12 years, is a founding TLP partner and an university partner for the newly-launched Future Leaders Legacy Fund.
