AAI Alumnus: Dr. Kwaku Ohene-Frempong

AAI was established just a few short years before Ghana gained independence in 1957. Since then over 540 Ghanaians have participated in AAI-administered higher education and skills training programs. These alumni have made significant contributions worldwide and have been at the vanguard of Ghana's development since independence, excelling in their chosen fields. In this issue of AAIONLINE, we profile a few of AAI's Ghanaian alumni, including Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, Minister for Habours & Railways in Ghana, Charles Boamah, Controller and Director at the African Development Bank Group, Angela Dwamena-Aboagye, Executive Director of the Ark Foundation, and Dr. Ablade Glover, noted artist and founder of the Artists Alliance Gallery in Accra, Ghana. We also talked with Dr. Kwaku Ohene-Frempong, Director of the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center at the Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania and an alumnus of AAI's African Scholarship Program of the American Universities (ASPAU), about his lifetime of work dedicated to the prevention and treatment of sickle cell disease and his reflections on Ghana's 50 years of independence...
