ABC News’ Byron Pitts to Host AAI’s Awards Gala

ByronPitts1The Africa-America Institute is proud to announce that the 2013 Awards Gala’s Masters of Ceremonies is renowned ABC News journalist Byron Pitts. A  seasoned journalist of U.S. and international affairs, Pitts will host AAI’s milestone 60th Anniversary Awards Gala ceremony under the theme, “Unlocking Africa’s Greatest Asset for 60 Years.”

A graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Speech Communication, Pitts is a multiple Emmy-award winning journalist known for his thoughtful storytelling, on-the-ground reporting and in-depth interviews. A news veteran with over 20 years of experience, Pitts has traveled around the world to cover some of the biggest news stories of our time.

As Anchor and Chief National Correspondent for ABC News, Pitts covered President Obama’s landmark trip to Africa. Additionally, Pitts has covered timely issues relating to Africa, including an in-depth look at AIDS in Soweto, and new research to fight the spread of AIDS. Prior to joining ABC News, Mr. Pitts spent the last 15 years at CBS News where he  served as Chief National Correspondent for The CBS Evening News and filed regularly for 60 Minutes.
