Vigil to Remember Victims of the Westgate Mall Shooting and Lampedusa Migrant Deaths

Rev. Canon Petero Sabune, who delivered the invocation at AAI Awards Gala, is helping to lead the memorial service.

An Interfaith Memorial Service will be held in remembrance of the victims of the Westgate Mall shooting in Nairobi and the African migrant deaths at sea in Lampedusa, Italy.

The memorial service, observed on the one month anniversary of Westgate Mall shooting, will be on Monday, October 21 at 1:00pm at the Church Center for the United Nations (at corner of E. 44th St. and First Ave.) in New York City.

South African Broadway star Thuli Dumakude will offer a musical tribute at the vigil.

The vigil is co-sponsored by The Africa Action Study Group (AASG), The Diasporan Touch, Church Center for the United Nations and Lutheran Office for World Community in collaboration with Green Belt Movement International The Africa-America Institute, Femmes Africa Solidarite (FAS), African Women’s Development Fund-USA, Sirleaf Market Women’s Fund, Ony Nwaohuocha, Esq./Ony Law, United African Congress, Give Them a Hand Foundation, and United Methodist Women Invite.
