2017 Pitchfest Competition Closing Soon

Do you have an innovative and creative idea that uses technology to solve some of Africa’s most challenging needs across the field of education?
The 2017 State of Education in Africa Conference will stage a competition between newly formed education-technology companies supporting African Education. PitchFest finalists will have the opportunity to make short pitches of their idea to conference attendees, including business, government and non-profit leaders from around the globe.
To support next stage development for their business
First prize winners will receive USD 2500
Second place will receive USD 1500
Third place will receive USD 1000
Applications will close April 19th. Finalists notified on April 24th.

Eligibility
Business/Company was legally formed no later than 1 March 2016.
At least 50% owned by African nationals.
Business/Company must be based and operate in Kenya.
Business/Company exists to support needs of or solve a problem in the education field through the use of technology.
Application Requirements
There is a two-step application process for all Pitchfest competition participants:
1) Applicants will complete a brief application (https://aaiprograms.wufoo.com/forms/aai-2017-pitchfest-competition/) identifying the company and the goals/objectives of their business and how they will use the prize money if awarded.
2) Applicants agree to all rules and regulations issued by the Africa-America Institute and requirements pertaining to the competition. Competition winners must submit a report within 12-14 months on how the funds were utilized and the results. Rules and regulations are subject to change.

5/3 – Finalist Presentations and Winners Announced at the State of Education in Africa conference
Final Pitchfest Presentations
On 3 May 2017, at the State of Education in Africa conference in Nairobi, Kenya, competition finalists will make short pitches of their businesses to conference attendees. Pitchfest finalists will be voted on during the conference, with the winners announced during the day’s closing session.
Competition Waivers
PitchFest competition participants and finalists agree to the following terms:
AAI is permitted to use video and photography footage submitted during the competition, including application materials, during the State of Education conference or in any way related to AAI;
AAI can determine when and how the footage is used, not excluding social media, promotional materials, etc;
AAI is not liable or responsible for the results of the business or initiative undertaken through use of the cash prize.
