AAI Social Media ‘Friends’ Invited to Submit Question for Gala’s Conversation on Africa

Entrant with Winning Submission to Attend AAI Awards Gala

Shaka Ssali, host of Voice of America’s “Straight Talk Africa”, will moderate AAI’s Conversation on Powering Africa’s Future.

The Africa-America Institute (AAI) is inviting its social media followers on Facebook and Twitter to participate in a social media contest where they will have an opportunity to submit a question that may be asked during a moderated high-level discussion on strengthening Africa’s future at the 30th Annual Awards Gala.

During the opening week of the United Nations General Assembly,AAI will host its Awards Gala on Monday, September 22, at Gotham Hallin New York City.

Hosted by Shaka Ssali of Voice of America’s “Straight Talk Africa”, the moderated conversation with three of the gala’s honorees will revolve around the gala theme, “Powering Africa’s Future through Regional and Global Partnerships”. Gala honorees participating in the conversation include Vivienne Yeda Apopo, Director-General of the East African Development Bank (EADB); Professor Thandika Mkandawire; and Jay Ireland, President and CEO of General Electric Africa.

Each entrant should submit one question via Facebook or Twitter, using the hashtag #AAI2014. A team of judges will review questions and select the top three questions. The top questions will be posted on Facebook. The question with the most “votes” in Facebook’s comment section will be asked during the conversation. The winner will receive two complimentary tickets to attend the black-tie gala.

The social media contest will go live on Friday, September 5 and concludes on Friday, September 12. The top questions will be posted on the afternoon of Monday, September 15. Voting for the “best question” will end on Wednesday, September 17.

The winner will be announced on Facebook and Twitter on September 17. All entrants are encouraged to become a Facebook fan and follow @AAIAfrica.

The winner will be responsible for their travel and accommodations in New York City.
