Ethiopian Prime Minister and African Union Chair Joins Gala Conversation

HE HailemariamH.E. Mr. Hailemariam Dessalegn, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Chair of the African Union, is confirmed to participate in an exclusive “Conversation on Africa’s Past, Present and Future” with African Heads of State during AAI’s 60th Anniversary Awards Gala on September 25 at the Hilton New York in New York City, during the opening week of the UN General Assembly.

President Dessalegn will join President of Ghana H.E. John Dramani Mahama  and President of Tanzania H.E. Jakaya Kikwete for the “Conversation”.

The other African Heads of State invited to participate in the conversation include: President of Namibia H.E. Hifikepunye Lucas Pohamba; President of Nigeria H.E. Goodluck Jonathan; and President of South Africa H.E. Jacob Zuma.

During the “Conversation”, African leaders will engage in a 20-minute high-level discussion highlighting Africa’s successes and challenges since independence and will present their vision for accelerating the continent’s development and socio-economic progress in the future.

AAI President and CEO Amini Kajunju and the AAI delegation met President Desalegn at the African Union Summit celebration in Ethiopia, marking the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of the Organization of African Union (OAU), predecessor to the AU.
