State of Education on Africa Conference
Save the Date
NOVEMBER 13, 2020
Join us for our next State of Education on Africa Conference (SOE) on November 13, 2020 from 1pm-5:45pm. The 6th Annual SOE will capture the interactive and collaborative spirit of past SOE and will allow our global network to connect with our work safely and conveniently from home.
Under the theme of “Teaching Africa: a 21st century, anti-racist agenda that promotes equity and achievement in K-12 education”, this year’s conference will explore the urgency, transformative potential, and challenges, of “teaching Africa” as a culturally responsive and high quality, educational approach to nurturing the academic achievement and holistic wellbeing of K-12 students.
Join us to hear from inspiring and thought-provoking keynote remarks and to participate in inspiring sessions meant to engage and connect. The conference will also offer useful and useable information about resources and tools for taking on this critical endeavor of teaching Africa in US schools and lay out a vision of where to go from here to further promote equity and achievement in K-12 education.
In 2014, the Africa-America Institute launched the first State of Education in Africa Conference (SOE) to provide a platform for dialogue and debate among key stakeholders in African Higher Education, with the aim of identifying opportunities for collective action towards its transformation. In the five SOEs held in New York City, Lagos, Nairobi, Abidjan and Dakar, the conference has looked at varying topics including Early Childhood Education, Teacher Training, Narratives on Africa and on Afro-descendant women and men and Reforming Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Education. For each conference held in an African country, AAI has sought to work with government ministers to host a gathering of thought leaders around topics that are most relevant to pressing and projected issues.
